Difference in Citruline Malate texture/smell

Would love to hear others experiences with this as it's a bit worrisome:
A while back I got a jar of citruline malate, was basically clumpy rocks that smelled slightly fruity/sour but not very strong, and when mixed with water tasted very sour but mixed well. The powder that wasn't in the rocks was relatively fluffy.
During the most recent sale I got another jar of the exact same product, but this time it is completely different. In a worrisome way.
It is some large rocks/clumps, but a lot of very fine powder, almost like sand. The big difference however is the smell: it smells completely different, almost of paint or something else. It's the type of smell that makes you recoil slightly. The taste still has that sour taste, but it doesn't mix nearly as well as the previous batch and tastes slightly off.
Does anyone else have any experience with the citruline malate product recently? Does this sort of drastic shift between the smells/consistency of the product make sense? It was sealed with both plastic wrap as well as a lid inside the product so it seems unlikely it was tampered with. It seems odd that the consistency/smell would be so different on the exact same product, and…

Thanks for responding, never had this situation before so it's a bit confusing.

Yeah everyone smells things differently so it's really hard to describe unfortunately. I'm just a bit confused as to why the previous batch had a certain consistency and smell while this one is totally different, despite being the exact same product/ingredients. If there's some reason or explanation I'm missing that would be awesome (I know that something like NAC smells awful no matter what and it's no cause for concern). If this is just how it goes sometimes and as long as I'm not accidentally eating grams on grams of a bad synth/odd byproduct I'm all good

So I pulled the retained lab sample from that batch, and one of the sealed retained units from that batch. Both smell as I expect citruline malate to smell. I tasted some of both powders, and it tastes like it should: very sour. I also dissolved some of each powder in room temperature water, and they fully dissolved. I pulled the lab data for the batch, and everything was good. ID and assay were all in spec, as was heavy metals and microbiological. No deviations or anything wrong. Without smelling your previous batch to get an idea of the fruity smell, it's hard to say. How long ago did you buy the previous batch? There's definitely nothing wrong with your current batch of citruline malate, though. All is well. Nothing to worry about. Different synthesis methods can lead to slightly different organoleptic properties at times. However, as long as all the lab testing shows things are in spec, you are good.
