What screen resolution are you running? By your screenshot, it looks to be a lower one. The header links are chopped off and moved to an expandable menu. That's what our theme does for people running lower resolutions. Unfortunately there's not much we can do about that, as you can only fit so much onto lower resolution screens. It difficult to design a UI that looks good from 4K all the way down, then on mobile as well. Our site definitely looks the best on 2K and 4K screens, as that is the future of where things are going towards. I would imagine that most of the people that don't like the site are running smaller/lower resolution screens.
We had tons of people asking us for more features and categories on the site, to make it easier to parse through our larger catalog. People were saying it was hard to find certain things, so they wanted a more comprehensive sort by type page. That's what this is. It only expands when you put your mouse over it, though. It's not expanded by default. I do agree that the hover can be a bit finicky sometimes, but that is built into the theme. It's not perfect, but we are limited by how the Stencil themes work in Bigcommerce. We have to balance giving people the options that they want, but also making it user friendly for all devices. Our biggest complaint we got before was that it was difficult for new people to find what they were looking for on our site. After adding all these things, our polling showed that everyone was much happier with this setup. Of course no UI will ever be perfect for everyone.
