N-acetyl-l-tyrosine ineffective

Original post in this thread

To my knowledge n-acetyl-l-tyrosine was shown in studies to be ineffective in raising tyrosine levels in the brain whereas L-tyrosine was much more effective. My question is why does ND carry a seemingly ineffective product? Is there something I am missing?

I've begun wondering if NALT is entirely different than L-Tyrosine in how it functions, as someone else mentioned, it is excreted in urine unchanged meaning NALT made it into the blood (and likely brain). Acetylation also changes drug functionality seemingly significantly.

We get plenty L tyrosine from diet. And taking more isn't going to necessarily mean more dopamine.

But what do we know about NALT in the brain? After reading selfhacked, examine, and wikipedia, I'm still left with questions: is this a research chemical in disguise?

NALT 100% works different than L-tyrosine. I have said that for years. Everyone saying it is useless because the studies showed it didn't raise L-tyrosine levels as well are missing the point. NALT doesn't have to deacetylate to actually bind to receptors. NALT works much better for me than L-tyrosine. Hundreds if not thousands of people over the years have told me they react the same. NALT does convert to L-tyrosine in serum, but not fully, and it doesn't mean NALT is not working directly in the body before deacetylating. Moreover, just comparing serum L-tyrosine levels doesn't give the full picture of how it might be getting to the brain better. Acetylation is a well known strategy for making compounds better able to pass the blood brain barrier. It would stand to reason it is affecting NALT's pharmacokinetics in similar ways.
