Curious about shipping cost.

Original post in this thread

I have an online business so I ship a lot of items. I am curious why nootropics depot shipping costs are so high. There are flat rate shipping options with usps, some of which are over a dollar less than the cheapest shipping options on nootropics depot. In addition to being over a dollar cheaper they are plenty large enough to fit multiple items in. I am wondering why I can’t order a 5gram container of noopept without paying more than the cost of a flat rate shipping box?

We won't ship USPS First Class anymore. We just won't. It was the biggest shitshow ever. It wasn't even really a choice for us. We could not keep going like that. Packages were going to the wrong states. Packages were lost. Tracking was not updated. Customers were getting angry at us, and it was adversely affecting sales and customer retention. My customer support team was inundated, and almost our whole day was taken up by trying to deal with shipping issues. It was a nightmare. You say you have only had a couple issues with almost 1,000 orders. We ship over 1,000 orders a day. At our scale, "a few issues" becomes a massive problem for our operation. That's multiple angry customers with us EVERY SINGLE DAY, nonstop. It's not worth it. People buy from us in part because of how quick we ship. If it constantly breaks down after it leaves our hands, we get the blame for it. It's simply not something that USPS can handle at this scale. What worked when we only had to deal with a 1,000 packages a month just simple does not work at 1,000 packages a day. Throw a pandemic into the equation, and things get to be even worse. Also, try and talk to someone at USPS to get information on a lost package. Try to even get a dedicated rep at USPS. It ain't happening. USPS might be fine for low volume non-time-specific vendors, but not for us.

Our main shipping option now is FedEx 2 day. We signed a contract with them that mandates quick shipping times. We have a dedicated rep at FedEx that actually picks up the phone, and can answer our questions and help when there are issues. We have a dedicated truck that comes to our facility. The distribution facility is literally right around the corner, so we can drop off end of day packages way later than possible for most vendors. People in the states close to use often get their packages the next day. Last week there was a post here on /r/NootropicsDepot where he got his package less than 8 hours after he ordered from us in Texas!

You will NEVER EVER get that with USPS. Never in a million years would that be in the realm of possibility with USPS. Even paying for USPS Express would not lead to that fast of delivery, and that would be 4X the cost. Our "standard" shipping now is literally the best you can get. The only way we can get a contract like that is to leverage our volume. Even now, you can't get our contract anymore because of the pandemic. They won't even talk to you about it, and they have removed all delivery guarantees for everyone else. We signed the contract at the perfect time, and are grandfathered in. Furthermore, they are going to be rolling our Sunday delivery to some larger US cities. So we might actually be able to deliver to some customers on Sundays soon. See if you can even get someone on the phone at USPS to talk about that. It won't happen. USPS promised us dedicated trucks YEARS ago. It never happened, and the person we were speaking to there about it was laid off. It's unfortunate, but USPS going through some shit.

So could we save some money and make things slightly cheaper with USPS? Absolutely. However, the service would be literal dog shit compared to what we have now. We would have many more angry customers, and my support team would hate their lives. We have never been about doing the cheapest method. We are about quality and being the best. If we can do that while being the cheapest, great! However, if we cannot, we choose quality and speed every time. It's worth the dollar or two. If people are worried about a dollar extra in shipping, we are not the vendor for them. We are never going to be fighting a race to the bottom. We will always be focused on quality and speed first.
