We only send one email to our entire list for new blogs, which is about once every two weeks. That's how we have always done it. I subscribe to other site's lists myself to see what people are doing, and I get 3-5 emails a day from some of them. So our normal emails going out once every two weeks is much less frequent than most.
The other emails you are talking about are only sent to a much smaller segment of our list that are tagged as being interested in whatever it is. So if you got the giveaway email and the LucidiSPORE email, somehow it thought you were interested in that and tagged you as such. These emails are not going out to the entire list. The issue is that the tagging is dynamic. The system determines what you are interested by what you click on and its algorithms. We could untag you, but since they are dynamic you will likely be tagged as interested again if you click on something we are running a sale or giveaway on. The only way around that would be to have multiple lists, but then customers would have to subscribe/unsubscribe to each one individually. Dynamic tagging is a better system, but you can fall through the cracks if the system thinks you are interested when you are not.
Regarding the specific emails you are referring to, we have never done giveaways before. It's a brand new thing we started. So you are getting a few recently because it was just set up. Also, the sales regarding LucidiSPORE would usually just be a part of our normal blog emails every 2 weeks. However, since I had to cancel the summer sale, we have been doing more deeper sales on individual products. Normally we wouldn't, but things are a bit different right now with the supply chain the way it is. So we have been trying to give people deals on some things that we have plenty of stock on, or want to get people to try out, that we normally would just have as part of one of our biyearly sales. So it is a bit unique of a situation the past month or so.
If you are not interested in some of the smaller sales and giveaways, and you are a Reditor, you can always just unsubscribe. We post everything here on our subreddit anyway. So you will see it here if you are interested. That doesn't unsubscribe you from order update emails and things like that, either. On top of that, my team is already moving giveaways out of the normal list anyway. This was just an interim thing to test out the system we were using. Going forward we are going to have giveaways be a separate list that people can opt in/out of. I understand that some people are just not interested in giveaways, so separating that out is ideal. Then the smaller individual product sales are probably going to be moved back into the regular blog emails soon anyway as well. The email that went out today only went to a small number of people on our list, though. You just got roped into it thinking you were interested, when it appears you are not.
