How's best to transition to intermittent fasting?

Original post in this thread

I was wondering how people have transitioned to intermittent fasting, and also how to handle supplementation when doing it? Also, does it change which supplements you should take?

Is it this way for most people? I tend to fast naturally if I'm focused on something. I'll go 10-14 hours without food easily. Intermittent keto and INI work wonders for me. I tend to eat keto all day and then have a big starchy meal of sweet potatoes and lentils and broccoli, though many days I forget to eat most of the day. What I feed my body seems to determine how the energy is spent. When I'm digesting just eggs, oysters, sardines and mackerel or tuna, or recovering from one of those meals, I'm in high intensity mode similar to a fasting state, but when I'm digesting sweet potatoes, broccoli, blueberries, bananas, lentils, spinach, and whatever else I'm in total relaxation mode.

For most men, yes. Obviously everyone is different. Some do better than others. Women tend to need to eat more often. Fasting too much as a women can actually stop their menstrual cycles. It just depends on the woman. Some handle it well, but others don't. Not to get too into the speculation behind it, but women traditionally did not hunt like men did. So they likely did not evolve the same processes as men. In an evolutionary sense, women propagated their genetics by having babies. To have babies, you need excess caloric reserves. This is why women marathon runners can sometimes have trouble conceiving. Doctors often suggest that women who do strenuous cardio and exercise to cut back on the high intensity parts of their workouts and increase their caloric intake when trying to get pregnant. Intermittent fasting affects women's hormones a lot more than men. So while I do really well with IF, my wife does not. We have to do well to recognize where our bodies just don't want us to go, and make changes based on the feedback our bodies give us. It can be difficult to determine what is a hurdle you can push your body through for good results, and a real limitation that pushing through might be detrimental in the end.
