I depend on it so I would be really interested too.
I don't know about the legality but the synthesis is damned easy.
I have done it at home and although it isn't practical as the pure food grade ethanol I can get is expensive as hell, I have no way to recover it , my diy vacuum chamber cracked and almost imploded and my vacuum pump oil didn't seem too happy with the ethanol either but in the end I got a product that looked and worked just as the commercial ones ( I get real sick if I don't take it for more than 2-3 days so I would notice ) .
But that wouldn't be a trouble for a proper lab. It is just silibinin and phosphatidylcholine dissolved in ethanol and then vacuum dried.

The patented things being expensive is not a factor of the cost to make. It's pure greed on that patent holder's part, plain and simple. We could make tons of patented things for like 10X less than they charge, but then we get sued. It would not be the first time for us. LOL
