Unexpected Memantine Side-Effects

I've been taking memantine daily for about three weeks now, and very slowly ramping up the dose. Currently at 6mg/day. It does seem to make me more energetic, it seems to have increased the effectiveness of coffee, which is great, however, there are unexpected side-effects.
One is that what seem like perfectly normal doses of caffeine (1 or 2 cups of coffee) makes me very anxious. It's boosted the anxiety-inducing effects of coffee to highly uncomfortable levels. It's as if my norepinephrine levels were through the roof. This causes me to have intrusive negative thoughts and difficulty focusing. I'm curious to know if I'm the only one who's got this side-effect from memantine, as people seemed to imply that memantine was calming, a good shield against depression and anxiety.
As it is, I think I'll have to either find a solution to this anxiety effect or stop memantine. I'm thinking that I might want to get back on a daily bacopa monnieri regime. This seemed to make me a bit lethargic in the past, but very calm. Possibly, bacopa and memantine could work well together. If they don't, I'll have to discontinue memantine as I can't see myself living with this level of anxiety. I'd…

You could always lower the dosage a bit, and add bacopa back in.
Have you had any genetic testing to see if you are a poor methylator? I am not sure if I have asked you that before. If so, SAMe is a great supplement to pull your mood up.
