DMSO as transdermal drug vehicle

Anyone here have experience/advice on the use of DMSO as a transdermal vehicle for dosing? Beyond disinfecting the delivery site not sure how to proceed. Is it as simple as dissolving the drug in a minimal amout of solvent and rubbing on the skin? How much DMSO is too much? Anymore elegant delivery options than dripping the solution on skin and rubbing it in?

I have a ton of DMSO left after trialing it out in some of our nootropic solutions. It is not really useful, since it makes you smell like rotten creamed corn. Also, if you use DMSO sublingually, it seems to damage your mucous membranes. It's a shame, because it is a great solvent for many molecules. However, the smell, membrane issues, and the fact that is has been found to cause apoptosis in the central nervous system, makes it not ideal for human use.
