I'm confused as to who is suggesting that MDMA is a risk-free high in the first place.

There are a lot of people out there doing it. Most of us try to rectify that misconception around here. However, those that do not frequent forums like this have a different viewpoint. Hell, the first time I did MDMA I was under the impression it was not harmful. That was years ago, but it still happens today. There will always be those that say the fears are overstated, or the studies were badly done, or at doses too high to matter. They never compensate for allomteric scaling, or they point to that one Ricaurte study as evidence that the entire world is skewing MDMA research to seem more dangerous than it is.
