Just took 600mg of DXM after drinking a bunch of GFJ earlier. 3rd Plateau here we come.

I drank a bit more than half a quart of white grapefruit juice to potentiate the DXM in my system (and to limit the amount of DXO created).

I have done this mixture (using grapefruit juice with DXM) before and it gives a MUCH less dissociative effect (until the 3rd plateau hits), and it gives an overall brightness, warmth, empathy, and happier high compared to just taking DXM alone.

This is because the GFJ inhibits the enzyme that metabolizes DXM, so you get a higher concentration DXM in your blood stream, while slowing the rate of metabolizing DXM into DXO. Therefore DXO (responsible for much of the more dissociative effects) levels are decreased compared to normal.

I would almost compare the trip to MDMA and LSD combined, but obviously it is not nearly quite the same.

Trip Log:

5:37: Starting to feel changes in perception. I can feel my thought process working in an abstract way.

5:50: Eyes starting to feel buggy, a small sense of joy/giddiness growing.

6:05: A glowing feeling, very happy, eyes are bugging out and colors are more vivid. Music gaining a magic feel to it.

6:19: Mind is starting to race in a happy speedy way, music makes my whole body vibrate. Smoking…

Grapefruit juice actually allows more DXM to be metabolized into DXO, not less. GFJ inhibits 3A4 the enzyme that metabolizes DXM into 3-MM, so this allows more DXM to be metabolized into DXO by another enzyme called 2D6. Basically it potentiates DXM indirectly by preventing its inactivation by other enzymes, and forcing more of it to follow the 2D6 pathway into DXO.

DXO is a more potent NMDA receptor antagonist, whereas DXM is mostly an SRI. Dissociative effects are a result of NMDA antagonism, so GFJ would increase the dissociative effects of DXM.

This is the same reason I drink grapefruit juice when taking MDMA. The CYP3A4 enzyme is what demethylates MDMA into MDA. A lot of people forget that they can significantly alter the effects of the substances they are using by inhibiting certain enzymes.
