TIL that in Germany if you drink and drive without causing any harm you can still be charged with negligence, fined and then have to pass an 'idiot' test and a psychological assessment in order to regain your license.

As a German, i thought this is normal. Are you allowed to drink and drive in America?

No way! My state of Arizona has some of the strictest drunk driving laws in the world. First offense you get 1-10 days in jail and lose your license for 90-360 days. It's also about $1,500 in fines, and you have to pay to put an interlock device on your car for 6 months that you have to blow into to start your car. Second offense, 30-90 days in jail and you lose your license for 1 year, plus $3,000 in fines and an interlock device, and minimum of 30 days community service. Third offense, you get minimum of 4 months in jail, plus another year suspension and $5,000 in fines. Those are the minimums, the court can go nuts on you if they want.
