Can We Fully Trust Nootropics Depot’s Claims Without Examine.com Backing? How Much Should We Really Spend?

Original post in this thread

I’ve been a regular customer at Nootropics Depot for a while now, and I’ve generally been satisfied with their products. However, I recently started wondering about the reliability of their claims, especially when compared to well-regarded sources like Examine.com.

Examine.com is known for its evidence-based approach to supplement information, providing comprehensive reviews and summaries of research studies. This got me thinking: how much can we trust the claims made by Nootropics Depot if they aren’t always backed by Examine.com’s findings?

It’s not uncommon for supplement companies to promote the benefits of their products based on limited or preliminary research. While Nootropics Depot seems to have a good reputation for quality and testing, I’m curious about the following:

1. How do we verify Nootropics Depot’s claims? Are there independent studies or third-party verifications that support their product claims?

2. How much should one realistically spend at Nootropics Depot? Given the questions around evidence and claims, what’s a reasonable budget for these supplements without overcommitting financially?

I’m interested in hearing others’ experiences and thoughts…

The two Vikings from Nootropics Depot talk a lot about how so many supplements are so effective for them, but I’m not sure if they’re lying or they’re just gullible (placebo) or what.

LOL, vikings. Yes, Emiel and Erika seem to react well to many things, but not all. Sometimes Erika either doesn't respond well to something Emiel does, or gets side effects that make it so she doesn't use it regularly. It just depends on the specific supplement. Also, you have to realize that it is myself and Emiel developing all the new products, so we develop them in a way that they are ideal for us. This is why you see Emiel and I really liking a lot of the new products. We literally developed them for ourselves, and use our own bodies as the guinea pigs, so we tailor them to our own responses. Emiel and I generally react similarly to things. However, other people in our office don't. We do beta testing with other employees of ND, and sometimes they don't react the way Emiel and I do, or they get side effects. People's body and brain chemistry are just so variable. Emiel and Erika also make a concerted effort to be mindful of their state, so they can recognize effects better when they trial new things. Sometimes I fall prey to that as well. If I am busy and stressed, I won't really notice the subtle effects of certain supplements in the moment. Many times I realize just how much they were affecting me when I stop taking them, and then notice the shift back to baseline. Sometimes that's the best way to really feel how something is working for you: to take it regularly for a while, then stop taking it to assess how your state changes.

The other thing many people don't take into account is gut health, and how it affects pharmacokinetics. I think some of the people that are non-responders to things are just not absorbing them properly. You are not going to get the effects of a supplement if you can't absorb it into your body. That's the first step. I think many people have dysregulation in their GI tract, whether that is an imbalance of their microbiome, or chronic inflammation. We have even had customers that said they didn't notice any supplements like you, but then make an effort to fix their gut health, and then start noticing supplements they never did before. Not knowing anything about you, it's hard to say if that is a factor here. However, it is a factor that a lot of people don't think about. It's also why some people react to sublingual administration, but not oral.
