Bought the 10% thymoquinone by ND to help with gut issues. I always took it in the morning first thing with generally no issues. I did notice if I took it later or close to a meal I would get minor heartburn/reflux, likely due to it lowering stomach acid.
Everything was fine until I decided to take one before bed one night, after dinner. At first I didn’t feel much, but as I was brushing my teeth, I felt a strange cooling sensation in my throat that was unusual. I chalked this up to the toothpaste and didn’t think much about it.

At this point, lying down felt extremely uncomfortable and the icy sensation was turning into a burning sensation that spread from my esophagus to my stomach. I ignored it and tried to sleep.
Some time passed, and the icy burning feeling became unbearable. I could not remember if I had fallen asleep and was woken up by the heartburn or I had never fallen asleep. I felt delusional. As /u/ShlongThong said, that is likely acid reflux. I've spoken to someone that has a similar reaction to black seed extract, and he had GERD. Ironically, high dose melatonin fixes it for him, so your melatonin dose probably helped a bit. He takes 10mg melatonin for it. That's a massive dose for sleep, but works really well for GERD. You likely have diagnosed GERD. I would speak to a doctor about it, but you might consider high dose melatonin in the short term to get some relief.
