Customs fees on free shipping order to Canada
Original post in this thread

As a Canadian, my last order of a value of about 300$ had customs fees of 72,99$.
That had never happened to me before with free shipping.
Anyone else? Any reason why that would've happened?
Nothing was missing in my order.

Canada is becoming more strict with assessing GST on incoming shipments, and depending on where you live in Canada, PST. There are no tariffs for US orders, due to the USMCA being signed. So there are no import tariffs for any Canadian customers ordering from the US. However, Canada still applies GST as it would you buying something from inside Canada. Some provinces also require provincial sales tax. GST applies in Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan and in the three territories. PST also applies in British Columbia, Quebec, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. An HST applies in Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland, and Labrador. With the free international shipping, it still clears through public customs, so it will be luck of the draw if they decide to stop and assess GST. However, they are doing that more often as of late. It's not just Canada. It's happening more often in many countries this year. Everyone is just getting more strict to try and get all the taxes they can. If you use private shipping carriers (FedEx, UPS, DHL), they will be assessed every shipment.
