If we don't make this change, the EU is going to start basically stopping every package soon. At least that is what we are being told by all our carriers. So the historical trend of packages mostly getting through without being stopped and assessed duties is going to be a thing of the past in the EU. The first step of that was forcing HTS codes on every item. This went live March 1st. We are now sending everything out with specific HTS codes for every SKU. The reason they needed this in place first is for the next step, which will happen between now and July. This is when they will start the whole new process of stopping most non-prepaid packages to be assessed duties. They needed the HTS codes to be able to properly assess the correct duties for the specific product category. If a package comes through without prepaid duties once they make this switch, it will get stopped so they can look at the package and reach out the customer to collect these duties. This will include a new manual processing fee and extra time in transit.
The reason DDP is going to be so much better is because then the packages will go through a separate prepaid clearance system. So there will be less likelihood that it will be stopped, it will get through much faster, and there won't be any added fees for manually processing the duty collection. The amount of duties will depend on which country you are located in the EU, as they all have their own schedules. For instance, Luxembourg is cheap at 3% for supplements. Spain is 10% for supplements. Poland is 8% for supplements. Denmark is the highest, at 25% for supplements. France is 5.5% for supplements. It all depends on your country.
You can look it up using the EU tool.
2106.90.9855 is the code for most supplements.
