D3 should be in the morning, as that is part of what signals your circadian rhythm.

The circadian phase of sleep can be delayed by vitamin D supplementation and by sun exposure.
Low vitamin D is also correlated with daytime sleepiness.

It makes sense, as vitamin D is created when you are exposed to sunlight. Traditionally, humans would be exposed to sunlight when they woke up in the morning and started their days. Taking vitamin D in the evening throws that cycle off. I've spoken to multiple people that get insomnia if they take D3 in the evening. Also, the idea you need to take fat-soluble things with fat is wrong. Take vitamin D for example. It's not because it is fat soluble that you need to eat with it. It's because when you eat your body releases bile salts and slows down GI motility. This gives the D3 a longer time to absorb.

You can see the difference between fasted and a high fat meal were negligible. The group that had the highest plasma level were the low fat food group, because it's about slowing down stomach motility, not about fat. Also, plasma 25(OH)D levels after 1 and 3 months didn't differ at all between the groups, so there was no real difference in the end. I take our D3/K2 every morning and fast all day, and that is fine.
