Heavy Metals Concerns (Mercury)

Original post in this thread

Hello, I'm a little worried about the heavy metal content and would like to get your opinion on the subject. I am aware that nootropics depot tests every product, but after some researches, I don't feel too confident about the .5 ppm limit. If for example I take 1.8 g of NAC per day and do the math, that would be roughly 0.9 mcg of mercury in total. The daily limit is about 6 mcg/day for a man of my weight. If I take for example 15 different nootropics per day or even more, I am, depending on the different dosages, close to or well above the limit. Not to mention the fact that I wear amalgams filled with mercury (which I am about to replace for mercury-free ones soon). The quantities seem to be much higher than I thought. Not to mention that mercury is already present in food and water. I would really like to hear your opinion on this.

You are comparing max upper limits of the spec as if those are the actual values. In reality the results on each batch are much lower than the 0.5ppm limit. In fact, on things like NAC you are likely under the machine detection limits most of the time. For the ICP-MS we use with the methods/standards applied to our QC batches, that detection limit is 0.0400ppm. I just looked up the most recent batch, and the results were under the detection limit. That means the ICP-MS can't even see it in there. For products like NAC made in a lab, it is easier to get effectively zero heavy metals. It's the natural products that absorb it from the environment they grow in, like bacopa and krill oil, that is is more difficult to meet the limits. For synthetic stuff made in the lab? Our stuff is going to have no detectable heavy metals.
