UK buyers - have you had to pay customs charges / extra taxes ordering from the UK?

It says it's coming tomorrow. There's no hint of any custom fee to pay, and on the e-payments site it claims the wayfair number is invalid (Dhl strikes again!) so I keep checking it with my debit card at the ready! If they turn up and I haven't pre-paid they take it away again :/

I checked with the team, and DHL does not pickup on Saturdays. I thought they did, but that was FedEx. DHL never has.
Do they actually turn up at your house if it needed duties and it wasn't paid? That seems weird. You figure they would hold it till they were paid, or at least show up and give you the opportunity to pay then. It would be weird to show up at your house, then tell you that you are shit out of luck because it was not prepaid.
