Oxalates content in herbal supplement

Original post in this thread

Are you checking the amounts of oxalates found in the final supplements you manufacture/white label?

I'm interested to use several ones but I'm unsure about the oxalates content (Magnolia bark, lemon balm, Ashwagandha, Ginseng etc).

I'm currently avoiding oxalates and need to verify what I'm consuming and how much.

\- Where are you at with the new Berberine product?

\- Sadly only the new Sleep supplement is 50% off and I have to introduce more Zinc into my diet :(

Oxalates are not really an issue in botanical extracts. Whole botanical powders might be higher, depending on the specific species. However, oxalates don't really come over in the extraction processes used for most extracts. The one with the biggest amount would be green tea. However, the extraction and decaffeination process gets rid of it. So like our green tea extract standardized to EGCG would not really have an issue with it.

Total oxalate concentrations ranged from 0.03 to 2.2 mg/g in solid samples and from 0.005 to 0.073 mg/mL in liquid samples.

So you can see the levels are very low. As for us testing, we don't currently. The methodologies used to test it are not something we have in our lab yet. That study used ion chromatography, which is a totally different detector on the LC. It's not a fun one to run, either. I think you can do some titration methods, but I would assume the detection limits would be higher and the methods and sample prep would be a mess. There's no real reason to add that into our battery of tests when the amounts are so low. It's just not an issue with extracts.

It's at entabulation now.

The Sleep Support with zinc is the one on sale.
