Why no safety covers?

Original post in this thread

Moist_Kite1 · 1 points

I’ve ordered from ND plenty of times and the smaller bottles always have safety covers under the caps that I peel off. I’ve ordered high pill count big bottles though twice and there’s no safety cover. Why is this?

EDIT: Another thing, on the big bottles and the super small bottles (i.e. the ones that mag glycinate and micro zinc come in), should there be an expiration date on the cap or somewhere on the bottle? If there is I can’t find one.

The large bottles have never had induction lids on them. We only recently started moving to induction lids on the smaller bottles. We used to use the press on style lids, where the liners sealed on based on the pressure of screwing the caps on. However, those don't always seal right. So we decided to move to induction liners, which use a an electrical current on our bottling line to heat up the metal in the liner and seal that way. Those seal much better than the pressure seal style. So we have been gradually moving everything to that style. We just had a lot of our regular large bottle lids in stock. So we are working through those before moving the large bottles over to the induction liners. Nothing to worry about. It's normal. You sill have the shrinkband over the whole bottle sealing it.

Regarding expirations, we don't have them on things due to FDA regulations. Everyone else is just violating the regulations by randomly putting expiration dates on the bottles. The FDA specifically tells you not to do that, and if you are putting expiration dates on things you need to have scientific documentation for why you put that date. Nobody does that. They just pick 2 years out from the production date and call it a day. Well we are working through things to be able to get our NSF certification, so they require you to have a shelf stability program, and have data for any expiration that you put on. If you can't scientifically prove the expiration date is valid for that specific product, in that specific bottle, you have to leave them off. So we are working on our accelerated stability program, but it is not as easy as it sounds. We do stability testing of retained samples, but if you go by the letter of the regulations for setting expirations, the exact methodologies for how you do it is much much more complex. It also takes years to get the data you need to scientifically prove your expirations are accurate. So for now we only put expirations if we have the scientific evidence enough to know the date is accurate. However, if you look at the lot number, the last six digits are the production date of that specific bottle. That tells you the production date.
