TIL That Bill Gates has donated more to charity ($28 Billion) than number eight on the Forbes Rich List (Stefan Persson) is worth ($26.0 billion).

What they were answering

Interesting articles but motivation and leadership don't necessarily translate into earning money. That seems to be a connection you are drawing yourself. Which is a matter of opinion I suppose seeing as none of the articles explicitly say this. I, for one, am inclined to believe that spending all your time earning money is a way for someone to fill otherwise meaningless time. Which is not to say all people who have a lot of money have empty lives. Again this is my opinion.

Yeah, there was a study I read last year that correlated the levels of neurotransmitters to success, but I can't for the life of me find it! In any event, correlation does not necessarily mean causation. Perhaps the levels were higher because they were successful. And I agree with you on the empty lives part, but thought mentioning their different brain chemistry would be interesting. Perhaps they do not see it as empty like we do. All speculation on my part though.

TIL that in 1916 an amendment was proposed to the Constitution that all acts of war would be put to a national vote. People voting yes would have to register as volunteers for service in the United States Army.

Replying to pocketknifeMT · Why let old people vote on the war decision then? If you are required to serve, then only those eligible should get the vote on that topic.

Because their taxes will also pay for the war. The amendment has to many holes to implement properly.

TIL The minimum amount of people needed to populate a space colony with minimum inbreeding would be 160

Replying to acusticthoughts · Only the oldest generation would be 100% women. Those 16 year old boys are gonna find 100 horny women...round 2 of the population will be fun! There will be 100 moms and about 50

I did not think of that! That would be cougar town, wouldn't it?

Replying to Forlarren · Except those engines are some of the best. Not having the best would directly affect the bottom line, so they try to keep them running in tip top shape to save fuel costs.

Best efficiency on fuel use, not on cleanliness of emissions!
