In all honesty, you probably weren't eating correctly. Many failed vegan/vegetarians suffer from health issues because they do not eat correctly. Like anything worthwhile, veganism and vegetarianism require some amount of research as to the healthiest way to go about it. I have heard hundreds of stories of people greatly improving their health from turning vegan (some even reversing cancer), and so when I hear someone say that veganism doesn't provide any health benefits (or at least for them it didn't), I'm only forced to assume that they were a malnourished vegan.

Nowhere did I say that veganism does not provide any health benefits! I said that going 100% vegan did not work best for me! I very rarely eat red meat anymore, and mostly eat raw sushi grade fish. I also eat chicken a few times a week, usually in Thai curry. There are so many more aspects to a person's physical and psychological well being than can be summed up in studies. Each person reacts differently to various things. I have a history of depression, and my body seemed to have a hard time getting the tryptophan I needed from a 100% plant based diet! Perhaps it was the vitamin D as well. Or perhaps it was psychological due to the insane amount of monitoring one has to do to find the nutrients I needed from plant based sources! Bottom line is, I am happier and healthier eating the way I do now than I was during my trial few months as a 100% vegan.
